To make pizza dough from scratch, you will need the following ingredients and instructions:
Ingredients:
2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1 ½ cups warm water (around 110°F/43°C)
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 ½ teaspoons salt
Instructions:
1.In a small bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy. This indicates that the yeast is active.
2.In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
3.Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the well of the flour mixture. Stir slowly with a wooden spoon or your hands, gradually incorporating the flour into the liquid. Continue mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
4.Transfer the dough onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky, or a little water if it’s too dry.
5.Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning it once to coat it with oil. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until it doubles in size.
6.Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn it out onto a floured surface and divide it into two equal portions if you’re making two pizzas. You can also leave it as a single portion for a larger pizza.
7.Shape each portion of dough into a ball and let them rest for about 10 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax and makes it easier to shape the dough.
8.Preheat your oven to the desired temperature for baking the pizza.
9.Take one ball of dough and, using your hands or a rolling pin, roll it out into a round or rectangular shape, depending on your preference. Roll it to your desired thickness.
10.Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a pizza stone or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
11.Repeat the process with the second ball of dough or save it for later use by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerating it.
Now you have homemade pizza dough ready to be topped with your favorite ingredients and baked into a delicious pizza.
